Resurgent Medvedev Secures First Title in Over Two Years
Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard surfaces
A revitalized Medvedev secured his first championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The Russian, a former world number one, has had a challenging period, winning just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately separating with former trainer Cervara.
Presently training with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.
This represents the player's first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface from March of the previous year.
Success also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.
"For the first time I have attended a event with my children at once, so to win a championship is really nice," commented ranked player Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in that event in the past months.
The player's defensive play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led commentators to doubt if his skill to perform at the top level was concluded.
However the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved service.
He came back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, winning four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The competitors swapped breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his first tour championship, gained dominance to create a final set.
The opponent defended four initial opportunities in a close final set before Medvedev broke to 15 to close out the victory.
Fittingly, Medvedev secured victory with a point at the net, with Moutet failing to control a volley after a lengthy match.
